A solid performance for Hull United's Men Team on Saturday with a 2-0 win over Google United, Manager Lewis added “ A great performance from the boys on Saturday, we moved the ball around much better and our movement off the ball was very good. A clean sheet and two goals give us something to build on for next weekend. We have a tough game against Hornsea to come as we played them on the opening day but one I know we want to avenge a little bit. Player of the match went to Crav, this lad was immense all game, worked his socks off on and off the ball. Top performance from him.

Hull United can confirm that this season will be John Duffill's last as the manager of the Men's First Team

After many years as Hull United manager, John has decided this one will be his last, with a new manager taking charge for the 2025/2026 season.

Manager John said "This year will be my last managing the lads, unfortunately with combining the running of the club off the field as Chairman and changes in my personal life, I no longer have the time that this role demands. The club needs a manager who can focus fully on managing the team, its not just training Tuesday's and Thursday's as well as games on a Saturday, it demands much more time than this, something I can no longer give my full focus too. With changes in my personal life and my family and loved ones needing more time, work and other Hull United commitment's, I could not give this my full attention which the lads deserve. I will of course support the team and the lads moving forward in anyway I can.

Hull United are looking for coaches and personnel to add to the men's team setup, should you be interested of have something to offer the club please email info@hullutd.com

The final of the East Riding County FA Cup came around for Hull United when they played Preston at Hull University last Sunday. hoping to make it into the final for the fourth year in a row, the squad had great energy pre-match and especially in the warm-up.

the lineup was set up in a 4-2-1-3 formation which allowed the squad to have some freedom to play the team’s ethos, get the ball down and play style.

the lineup started with a return of Cone in goal and the back four of Newlove, Corrine, Robinson dropping into the centre-back role and Eleanor on the left-hand side. in the midfield, in the deeper midfield position was Captain Holmes and Tankard and Brown just in front of them. then finally the front three of Damms, Ibbotson and Ward.

The first half was a difficult start for United, struggling to get the ball and string passes together became a recurring theme for United throughout the game. some clear-cut chances were created by the front three but unfortunately, none were put away to give United the lead. A quick substitution had to be made in the game’s early minutes. Captain Holmes off and O’Rourke on and slotting into the back four, Robbo pushing into midfield.

united continued to attempt to keep the ball with the thought that the goals would soon follow. One chance from the corner with a header from O’Rourke seemed to be the opener but some great defending from Preston kept the ball away from goal. united seemed on all parts of the pitch to have a lack of execution. The team continued to push on and another substitution was made around the 30-minute mark. a straight swap of Ward off and O’Neill on.

at half-time, the squad went into the changing rooms knowing that they had not done enough to finish the game off in the first half. the effort was there but something just didn’t seem to click in the first 45 minutes. substitutions then had to be made at halftime, with the keeper cone coming off, due to illness, to be replaced by Adamson. also coming off was Brown for Lisle and Ward was back on for Ibbotson.

trying to kick on in the second half. the team tried to find a second gear to get into to put the game to bed, but it was Preston who scored first caused by a mistimed challenge to put them in the lead in the 55th minute.

needing to make changes to try and stay in the game, tankard came off for Holmes who made a massive impact as soon as she came back onto the pitch

united started to build momentum in the latter stages of the game, and the front three started to make some dangerous runs into the box. Ward kept darting down the win and playing some brilliant balls into the box but none found the feet of the strikers.

time was running out for an equaliser, so United came up with an all-out attack formation. giving Damms a rest and putting Ibbotson back on to give some fresh energy back into the team seemed to add some fire to the United attack. and around the 80-minute mark. there was no other choice but to make a triple substitution to get a goal. Tankard was on for O’Neill, Lisle off for Brown and finally O’Rourke off for Damms which then put three at the back to out as many bodies forward as possible.

then finally the chance came from a fantastic ball from Damms into the box for Ibbotson to tap in to make the game 1-1. finally united got a goal. the last 5 minutes became very end-to-end. however, no teams scored which ended up taking the game to a penalty shootout to decide who would be going into the final.

but before the final whistle, one final sub was made and Adamson came off for Cone who had a quiet confidence when it came to penalties.

This Sunday Hull United women’s development faced Preston at home.

The ladies knew this would be a tough test against the reigning champions, but the ladies were up for it.

With strong winds from the start, the girls chose to play with the wind and it paid off almost immediately. After a good save from Whitfield early on, a lofted ball from Ayre through to Mansell saw her find the back of the net after just 5 minutes.

The ladies grew into the game with Neale -Wright and Bailey working tirelessly down the wings.

The back four of Watson, O’Rourke, Warner-Bull and Bentley kept the Preston attacks to a minimum and Workman in the middle ran her socks off to dominate play.

Preston grew into the game as the half went on but the home side took the 1-0 lead into half time.

           HT 1-0

The second half saw the visitors dominate possession from the whistle. When the home side managed to break the attacks were brilliant and almost saw goals from Bailey, Okpeta, Neale-Wright and Bailey.

Despite the number of attacks from Preston, they could not find the back of the net. Whitfield made a huge save to keep the girls in it, and she dominated her box excellently.

All substitutions came on and worked relentlessly to push for the 3 points, defending brilliantly in difficult conditions.

A last minute free kick for the visitors sailed over the bar to confirm the 1-0 win for United.

           FT 1-0

A huge win for the ladies sees them in 4th position in the league, 3 points behind Preston with 2 games in hand.

POTM went to Whitfield for a brilliant display between the sticks and for keeping a clean sheet against really tough opponents.

United started with positivity and took control of the game early on. After 15 minutes, United were awarded a free kick just past the halfway line. Sharp stepped up and rocketed the ball into the back of the net to make it 1-nil. Another chance came when Robinson took a shot from outside the box that ricocheted off the post. More chances came from Tate, Ibboston, Holmes and Damms but United couldn't hit the target.

Hatlepool made some good runs down both wings, but their opportunities were kept at bay by the solid back four: Ward, Wilshere, Sharp and Newlove. Sharp and Wilshere dominated the ball in the air in defence.

The second half kicked off; United knew Pool would use the wind to their advantage, so defensively, United dropped. Hartlepool conceded numerous corners but United were able to clear each time.

For United, Brown made a great impact on the game with her ball control and passing. She linked up well with Ibboston and Tankard in the middle. Damms and Tate's work rate was fantastic. They closed down Hartlepool players from the back so they couldn't take control of the match.

Pool had a chance to equalise when a well-struck free kick was taken by the wind and hit the side post. In the other goal, numerous chances were missed to double the score.

United played well by keeping the ball on the floor. This started with Cooke making some great decisions to play out from the back. A whole committed display from all players meant United took the 3 points.

Player of the match was awarded to Faith Brown for her positive impact on the match. She was calm on the ball and took control in the middle.

           Coach comment:

A solid performance this week from United. We included some changes that impacted us in a positive manner. A real review of going back to basics has helped us. There are still lots to work on, but I'm happy that we are on the right path. It will be a tough game next week against Wallsend but we will prepare well.

Midway through the first half United struck first after some great link up play between Damms and Tankard enabled a through ball to Tate who provided the assist to Ibbotson. United 1 - Harrogate 0. United battled well in the middle of the park with Sharp, Robinson and Tankard working up and down the pitch. Shortly after Marrow made way for Ward due to injury and Eleanor Robinson slotted into the defence. Ward and Robinson were very successful down the left side and provided some great opportunities but United were unable to convert despite the advantage of the wind. Shortly before the break Lisle came on for Sharp and United continued the waves of attack but Harrogate defended well with the keeper acting as their sweeper for a high line. The half time whistle blew and United were in front.

United got the second half underway and played into the wind. Harrogate came flying out the blocks however United struggled to settle into the game. Thomas was introduced to the field for Ibbotson to drive the team forward and hold the ball up against the force of the wind. Harrogate attacked in waves which put United on the back foot and conceded a number of corners on the bounce and Cooke made way for Cone. Harrogate levelled at the corner when a player slotted the ball home at close range. United 1-Harrogate 1. The game restarted and shortly after Harrogate were awarded a free kick midway through United’s half. United failed to fully clear their lines and the opposition reacted first and found the back of the net with a long range strike. United 1- Harrogate 2.

Bradford chose to start the first half with the advantage of the wind. Early on, a free kick was awarded in Bradford's half. The ball was played in front of the 18-yard box where the striker and goalkeeper came head to head - a slight miss kick meant the striker was able to slot the goal away into an empty net. Bradford pressed high and passed the ball well in midfield. United fought back and worked hard against the wind. During the 16th minute, a pass found Holmes, where she took a chance and struck a shot at goal, gaining a corner after being palmed away by the Bradford keeper. From the corner kick, United cleared the bar with a header. United had another attempt with a run from Newlove, however the the Bradford defender was able to put in a challenge and stop the breakthrough. Ibbsoton on the other wing had some good opportunities to press forward. A chance came when she linked up with striker, Thomas, but unfortunately again Bradford's defence were able to clear the ball. Bradford made a run down the right wing, getting the ball to the striker, who was awarded a free kick just outside the box. The free kick was taken well and lobbed the keeper, 2-0. Moments later, a slip up in the United defence meant that Bradford’s no 9 was through on goal and hammered home Bradford's 3rd. The first half came to a close with Bradford taking full advantage of the wind.

United made some half-time substitutions. Cone made way for Marrow, with Cooke stepping up in goal, and Thomas made way for Lisle. Stern words from the management team fired United to be better in the second half.

Straight from the off, United piled on the pressure. Both teams had numerous opportunities to push forward in numbers, but the defence lines worked hard to keep each other at bay. In the 60th minute, Holmes was released by a great through ball however City were able to cover, and their centre back produced a great last-minute tackle. City created another chance but Cooke was on form in goal. In the 83rd minute, a long hopeful ball was hammered forward by the United keeper, which found the feet of Holmes whose shot let fly from 25 yards out looping over the City’s keeper's head giving her no chance to save. This sparked United into pressing higher. United gained a free kick on the edge of he area in the 88th minute, up stepped Holmes whose shot went sailing over the cross bar. The game was coming to a close. City threw in one last hopeful ball from the left wing and a half-volley from outside the area bounced in front of Cooke, leaving her no chance to make the save. Full-time 4-1.

Today's player of the match went to Meg Cooke after her overall brilliant performance. She started the game at right back keeping the City’s left winger quiet for the first half, and then was asked to play in goal the second where she pulled off some great saves and even finding herself an assist.

Last Sunday was the first home game of the year; United wanted to carry on from last week's win with another.

The first ten minutes of the match were end to end, with both teams struggling to convert any attempts at goal. Barnsley battled hard in the middle of the park, but skipper Robinson, with support from Tankard and Damms, kept them quiet. One clear-cut chance was created for Tate to put away, but unfortunately, this wasn’t the case. Just before the half-time whistle, Barnsley broke free from the back four, and a miss timed tackle caused the striker to go down in the box and subsequently a penalty was awarded to the visitors. Barnsley put away the penalty - finishing the half in front.

After the half-time team talk, United knew they had to be more clinical when taking chances; the team needed to take more attempts from a distance rather than trying to walk the ball into the goal. One change was made, which was O’Neill for Thomas.

United tried to kick on from the first whistle and created some good opportunities. One chance came from Damms, who made a great run, cutting into the box, but it was saved by the Barnsley keeper. This became a reoccurring theme for the second half. Changes were made in the 70th minute, where Sharpie made way for O’Rourke and Ward was replaced by Cooke. Unfortunately, another goal was slotted away by the Barnsley attack, making it 2 nil. The final substitution was made for United around the 75th minute mark, where Tate came off for Lisle, hoping fresh legs would change the dynamics of the game. However, Barnsley defended well until the end whistle. The away team took away the points with a 2 nil victory.

The player of the match went to Chloe Robinson for her constant battling and headers in the middle.

Assistant Manager Mel Marsden Added " First half i thought we were brilliant, and where very unlucky to go in one nil down, we competed all over the park and Barnsley did not really cause us any problems, Sharla had very little to do in goal. We need to improve in our forward play and be more clinical in front of goal. Football is a game of fine margins and today it did not go our way, but there are lots of positives for us to take into next weeks game against Bradford City.

With this being the ladies first game since the home defeat to Beverley in November, the girls were looking to put an end to their 3 game streak without a win.

The girls started strong with Pinder and Workman winning every ball in the middle, with Warner-Bull and Bailey on the wings working hard to get the team forward.

Only 15 minutes after kick off, following some great play with Neale-Wright, Kerrison found the back of the net to send the visitors into the lead.

South cave had very few chances with the back four of Bentley, Marrow, Watson and Greenley, and Ayre in goal keeping the strikers at bay.

Ellis replaced Warner-Bull on the left and worked hard with the strikers to get the second goal.

Despite the long break the visitors were passing the ball around brilliantly, controlling the game and dictating the play.

An unfortunate injury to Pinder saw a double change with Whitfield on for the captain, and Zakria for Kerrison.

Zakria made an immediate impact with her bagging her first goal for the club only a minute after being subbed on.

The girls started well in the second half keeping the ball for large periods of the game.

South cave came out strong and created a few good chances but the back four dealt with them well.

An hour in and Whitfield replaced Ayre In goal who moved into the back four to replace an injured Watson.

Workman ran the show and didn’t stop running for the whole game despite playing in 4 different partnerships in the middle.

United created a few more good chances before the final whistle but the scored remained 0-2 to the visitors.

The second half of the season began last weekend when Hull United travelled north to face Alnwick Town Ladies. United wanted to start the second half of the season with a new attitude and were hungry for a win.

After a long three hour journey, the ladies kicked off with a 4-2-1-3 formation with the usual back four: Wilshere, Sharpie, Ward and Robinson.

In the holding midfield role were Captain Holmes and Chloe Robinson with Tankard playing just in front. The front three included Newlove, Tate and O’Neill.

The game kicked off and both teams seemed up for a battle. The back four kept winning balls in the air and mopping up loose balls. The midfield worked hard, ensuring they won their battles early on in the game. An early substitution had to be made with Brown replacing Ward. Brown slotted into the midfield and Newlove had to drop into fullback position to help the squad. However, it was the home side who put away the first goal just inside of the 15 minute mark. The first half of the match was end to end but the Keeper, Sharla Cone, made some great saves. Just before the half-time whistle blew, a chance opened up for Hull United, where Millie O’Neill ran through the defence line and equalised.

The message at half time was to keep calm on the ball and try to link some more passes together to make sure that we came out with a positive result at the end of the game.

Captain Holmes came off for a few minutes being replaced by Ward, and the game kicked off. United appeared to start the game with a newfound confidence and tried to play with the ball on the floor. Some good balls were played through for Ward, Tate and O’Neill to run on to. Around the 50 minute mark, a ball from Millie Sharp found Tate, who scored a great goal, making the score 2-1.

Then, it was United’s job to defend the win as best as possible, which was done successfully by the whole team fighting to the end. Some more substitutions were made: Chloe Robinson off for Chelsea Bailey, Brown off for O’Rourke and Millie Sharp off for Ibbotson. The game remained end to end, even within the final minutes. Alnwick, desperate to gain some points from the game, even brought their goalkeeper up the pitch when the final minutes saw a flurry of free kicks and corners conceded. However, Hull United continued defending as they had done all match, and the final whistle blew, which secured a 2-1 win in the first game of 2024.

Player of the match had to go to two players this week who were Corinne Wilshere and Millie sharp, as they battled endlessly throughout the whole game.

This week's game will be played at home against Barnsley.

Assistant Manager Mel Marsden added, “The girls played brilliant today; we have been working on our shape in and out of possession, and it’s really paid off. Their work rate, desire, and commitment were first class - something that will be beneficial for us to move up the league. Sometimes, you have to win ugly, roll your sleeves up, and get stuck in, and that’s something we did in abundance on Sunday. It’s a great start to 2024, but we have to stay grounded and move our focus to Sunday when we welcome second place, Barnsley, to Haworth Park. We are looking to gain more points on the table.”

Both teams were growing into the game but it was the visitors that broke the deadlock with a great strike from Demi to fire United into the lead.

Pinefleet were quick to respond with a good strike from the edge of the area finding the back of the net.

A couple of changes saw Mansell and Hughes replace Pinder and C.Holmes, which resulted in a new back 4 of O’Neill, Workman, Watson and Bailey.

With both teams looking to gain the advantage, it was the home side who did. A good strike from the right saw keeper Ayre picking the ball out from her net, with United looking to pull it back.

The second half was more balanced with both teams pushing for the winner. Some good saves and hard work all round kept the home side at bay meaning the final score was 2-2.

For the second weekend on the trot, Hull United and Great Driffield AFC locked horns at Haworth Park. They contested an East Riding Senior Cup tie on Saturday afternoon in which the visitors ensured their progression into the next round with a 0-1 win.

In the eighth minute, Driffield created the first real opportunity of the game. This forced Citizens goalkeeper Harry Milner to produce a great save. Four minutes later, Milner was called into action again and led to him making another good save to prevent the visitors from taking the lead.

There was an injury setback for the Citizens in the 19th minute. Liam Taylor was forced to depart the action and was replaced by Tresor Kalilwa. In the 23rd minute, Jean Kalilwa fired an effort straight at the Driffield keeper who comfortably gathered the ball within his grasp.

Inside the first few minutes of the second half, Driffield had an opening to potentially double their lead. This was through a header that was put wide of the Citizens goal.

Meanwhile, the Citizens began to work their way into the game. They saw a lot more of the ball, but couldn’t quite fashion any meaningful opportunities to fully test the Driffield keeper. On the hour mark, Callum Staves saw his deflected shot drift wide.

The visitors came very close to making it 0-2 a few minutes before the full-time whistle. They sent a free-kick just wide.

There was an extraordinary game between Hull United and Great Driffield AFC at Haworth Park on Saturday afternoon. It produced a remarkable total of ten goals, but resulted in the Citizens suffering a 3-7 defeat.

Charlie Wildbore, Tresor Kalilwa and Jean Claude Kalilwa got their names on the scoresheet for the Citizens. Meanwhile, Driffield’s goals were secured thanks to a Jonny Blakeston brace, efforts from Tom McDougall, Dan Taylor, Tim Taylor, Ewan Johnson and a Liam Taylor own goal.

Just a matter of seconds into the game, the visitors put themselves in front. They delivered a cross into the Citizens box which led to Liam Taylor sending a header past his own goalkeeper Harry Milner. Driffield doubled their advantage in the eighth minute when a penalty was converted.

The Citizens carved out a big chance to get themselves back into the game in the 20th minute. However, Tresor Kalilwa was unable to direct his effort on target after he was teed up by Sam Miles. Eight minutes later, the visitors gave themselves a three goal cushion. A long throw hurled into the Citizens box caused big problems for their defence and Driffield profited from it.

A few minutes before the break, Driffield grabbed a fourth goal. They managed to do so courtesy of a curled strike which clipped the inside of the post and nestled into the back of the net.

Driffield produced a quick counter attacking move which culminated in the ball being slotted into the back of the net. In the 56th minute, the Citizens secured a goal through a deflected Wildbore strike. Tresor Kalilwa then pulled another goal back which made the scoreline 2-5.

Pinefleet started to grow into the game, creating good chances out wide but their efforts were not rewarded. Pinder and Workman ran their socks off winning every ball in the centre of the park forcing Pinefleet to go wide. Hughes was replaced by returning Randall who ran her socks off up top.

The second half kicked off in similar fashion to the first with good football from both sides. Greenley was replaced by Holmes who was outstanding against a very quick left winger. Pinefleet were growing into the game more and gaining momentum before a poor challenge on Ayre took the sting out of their attacks.

Only moments later Randall netted a brace with two really well taken finishes. With a 2 goal cushion United started to play with confidence. No more so than captain Pinder whose 50 yard effort flew over the keeper and into the back of the net.

All in all a great day for the visitors. Some excellent football was on show from both sides, a top game for the neutrals, but it was United who progressed into the next round.

The game started fairly evenly, but neither team managed to get a grip of the game. The midfield 3 of Workman, Pinder and Neal-Wright worked well to keep the Ferriby attacks at bay.

Hull United picked up their third league win of the 2023/24 season on Saturday afternoon. They did so by beating Hedon Rangers 3-1 at Haworth Park.

The visitors almost went ahead inside the first minute as they saw a header cleared off the line. In the second minute, the Citizens put themselves in front. Citizens goalkeeper Harry Milner kicked the ball down the pitch and it caused a major problem for the Hedon defence. This led to one of their defenders inadvertently putting a header past their own goalkeeper Jake Jory and into the net.

In the 26th minute, the Citizens passed up a very good chance to double their lead. It came through an Owen Clater header which was put wide having been picked out in the Hedon box by a terrific Charlie Outram cross.

At the beginning of the second half, Hedon got themselves back on level terms. Ryan Whincup slotted the ball past Milner after being played through by Ollie Smith. In the 50th minute, Whincup threatened again as he had a shot palmed away by Milner.

The Citizens restored their lead in spectacular style in the 79th minute. Attila Filep produced a sensational strike that flew into the Hedon net to secure his first goal of the season. Five minutes later, Whincup nearly got the visitors back on level terms with an effort which was fired wide.

In the final moments of the game, the Citizens extended their lead. Filep turned provider as he set up Jean Claude Kalilwa who provided a cool finish to bag his second goal of the campaign. It was a victory which sees the Citizens occupy tenth place in the league table.

The FA Cup was back for Hull United ladies, a home game to Bradford City who had previously beaten Wallsend B.C 4-2 the previous week. Hull United suffered a 6-1 loss in their last game to Wakefield AFC.

The game kicked off after skipper Lauren Holmes won the toss, and it was fairly end-to-end football, with some great blocks and tackles coming from the two centre-halves, sharp and Corinne. However it was Bradford who struck first and picked up a misplaced pass, they fired it away to make the score 0-1.

This didn’t drop United’s heads. If anything it gave them fuel to go on and work even harder than before. The fullbacks, Newlove and Marrow picked up the wingers well and marked them out of the game.

The midfield three dominated play even with the goal deficit and clear-cut chances were created but unfortunately not put away. Holmes, Robinson and Tankard battled hard throughout the first half. But just before halftime a substitution had to be made, Robinson off and Brown on.

This weekend hull United women’s development squad faced reigning champions Preston away.

With a few missing, it was always going to be a tough game for the visitors but with an unbeaten start to the season, United went into the game with their heads held high.

From the first whistle the game was end to end. Both sides created chances from the off but it was Preston who broke the deadlock. With a mix up at the back the home side went 1-0 up.

After going behind, United grew more and more into the game. With the front 3 of Hughes, Mansell, Warner-Bull and Ellis in the middle causing problems for the Preston defence. United won a free kick 15 minutes in down the right hand side. Ayre played a Good Cross to the Back Post which was hit home by Bailey to level the scoring. Kerrison was introduced and added fresh legs and a different threat up top.

The visitors played some great first half football against a tough Preston side who made it 2-1 before the break.

The message at half time was simple, work hard, be first to the ball and we would get something out of the game.

United were slow to restart the game. The strong Preston side took advantage of this and made it 3-1. Despite the score line the back four off Greenley, Watson, new signing Gayles, Bentley and keeper Cooke were keeping the Preston forwards at bay.

The introduction of Holmes freshened up the back four in an attempt to hold off the Preston attack.

Hughes was brought back on and changed the game instantly. With 10 Minutes to go United made it 3-2 with Hughes getting on the score sheet. United were pushing for the equaliser and Preston were looking for the win. With some quick play down the right hand side a brilliant cross from the Preston winger found the head of their striker which left Cooke in goal no chance. 4-2.

The visitors continued to push for another goal and it was Hughes who hit the back of the net again from a great ball from Bailey into the box.

The final whistle blew with the final score of 4-3 to the home side. United left with their heads held high after a 90 minute battle in which every single player ran their socks off. Such a close result against the reigning champions shows just how far the development side have come.

Hull United secured a 3-1 victory over East Riding Rangers at Haworth Park on Saturday afternoon. It was the perfect response from the Citizens having come into the game on the back of three successive league defeats against Club Thorne Colliery, Hornsea Town and Pocklington Town respectively.

The Citizens dominated proceedings in the first half. Their first clear cut opportunity came in the the 18th minute when Callum Harrison had a shot saved. In the 33rd minute, the Citizens finally broke the deadlock and went ahead. Dan Nichols secured his first goal of the season with a well taken strike having been teed up by Harrison.

In the 39th minute, James Nichols made it 3-0 and got his name on the scoresheet for the first time this season. He coolly slotted home after being neatly played through by Harrison. This put the Citizens in a very commanding position at the break.

East Riding continued to threaten and the momentum certainly looked to be with them. They forced Citizens keeper Harry Milner into action and later saw an effort smash the crossbar. The visitors believed that the ball had gone over the goal line after bouncing down off the woodwork, but the referee didn’t agree and it remained 3-1.

Away days we’re back for the season, when United travelled over 2 hours to play Spennymoor ladies F.CSmall changes to the line-up from last week, Tate moving to centre forward and Tankard coming into the starting line-up.

The first 15 were shaky from United as Spennymoor’s aerial threat kept opening up chances for the side. But with a great bit of build up play, Anya Ibbotson slotted the ball into the bottom right corner making the score line 1-0 to United.

This goal seemed to bring some confidence into the squad, when some better football was being played and United looked a real attacking threat. Tate, Ibbotson and Ward seemed to find themselves getting into the box in more occasions but the Spennymoor defence dealt with them accordingly.

During the middle of the second half United gained advantage from a corner and Tate swung the ball and made it through every player and into the back of the net. 2-0

Some changes were made in the first half, mainly the midfield to keep up with the heat and to keep our performance at a winning level. Chloe Robinson came on for Lisle and made an immediate impact on the game.

At this point the back four gained a lot more confidence and kept sweeping up any wayward balls or winning every 1v1 battle. Eleanor and Jade as the full backs made some great challenges and played some great football to keep us on the front foot.

Just before half-time though, Spennymoor’s attack played a cross into the box and headed it into the back of the net to make the score 2-1 at half time

The second half went underway and United had the intention of getting the ball down and playing a nice passing style of football. Millie sharp , who had a brilliant first half, had to come off due to injury. This then meant a new partnership of O’Rourke and Corinne as the centre backs.

United started the second half with the same momentum of the first half and kept the score line at 2-1 for the majority of the second half. This was due to Holmes, Chloe Robinson, Tankard, Lisle, or any of the midfielders who were on at the time.

A quick sub was made, Ellis into right wing the keep united with an attacking presence

Unfortunately in the dying minutes united became undone from a penalty decision that was then put into the top corner with no chance of saving, even if Keeper Sharla Cone wasn’t injured.

Because of Sharla’s injury, Eleanor then had to be pulled into goalkeeper duties. And a credit to put the gloves on and play in the position.

But momentum kept Spennymoor fighting in the final minutes which made the United side drop too deep. A corner was then conceded and a goal then came from the corner. Game finished a 3-2 loss for United

POTM Went to Sharla Cone who kept us in the game with some brilliant saves and winning countless balls in the box.

The first league game of the season saw the ladies face Malet Lambert away from home in the League, hoping to carry on the good form from the back end of last season. The ladies were highly dominant in the opening 25 minutes with a few good chances coming down the right-hand side with Grace putting an effort just wide and forcing the Malet keeper into a good save.

Malet then grew into the game however the United defence of Skye, Kacey, Olivia and Gemma stood strong to limit Malet to any real chances. After working hard for 35 minutes up top Lacey made way for Katie. A while later United found themselves with possession on the left-hand side were Chelsea saw the keeper was off her line and chipped it over the line making it 1-0 United. The ladies continued to knock the ball around nicely with the midfield Sammie, Pinder and Chelsea working tirelessly to keep United ticking over. At half time the words from manager Mel was to keep playing the same and try to create more chances.

United started brightly in the 2nd half with Chelsea hitting the bar directly from a corner. A couple of minutes later Chelsea found herself on the ball on the right of the Malet box with a piece of fancy footwork she beat her player and whipped in a great ball for Katie to head home 2-0 united. Moments after that the United pressure continued with Pinder firing a free kick wide and an effort from Sammie going wide of the target too. The game opened up a bit with a few half chances from Malet but nothing to cause goalkeeper Meg any major problems. The game then became very scrappy with both sides committing a couple of fouls. Around the 65th minute marked Mel making a double change with Grace and Skye making way for Jamie-Leigh and CJ. A few sharp bits of play from United saw them play the ball around the Malet midfield however struggling to find a real end product Malet then caught United on the counter with the Malet forwards effort going wide of the target. 70 minutes had gone by when Mel decided another change was needed this time Katie making way for Lacey. United then kept the ball well zipping it around the park keeping majority of the possession. In the 80th minute United made another change with Gemma coming off which meant Ellie dropped into left back Jamie going onto the left wing and Phoebe coming into the number 10 role. United continued to dominate possession and then with 5 minutes to go Jamie Leigh found herself with a bit of space 30 yards out beating her player and seeing the keeper off her line and chipped the ball into the back off the net 3-0 United. With 2 minutes to go Malet played a ball in behind which nearly ended in a disaster due to a miscommunication between Kacey and Meg. Luckily the United keeper was quick on her toes to clear the ball off her own line and out for a Malet corner. The resulting corner was taken and United managed to clear it with the referee blew for full time. Hull united 3-0 Malet lambert.

For the first league game of the season, who are United ladies hosted South Shields ladies at Haworth Park. Trying to build from last weeks win against Milmoor, the energy was very positive before the start of the game. The intention was to keep the ball and allow the ball to do the work because of the heat. The back four was slightly adjusted from last week with Eleanor moving into the left back position and Millie sharp dropping in into the centre back role in which she performs well.

Both teams started strong, particularly Lois making promising runs on and off the ball down the left hand side of pitch, creating pockets of space in the final third for both Tate and Ibbotson to run onto.

In the first half United as team weren’t at their strongest, however the back four of Worsley, Robinson, Corinne and Newlove helped keep the Millmoor attack at bay.

Snippets of class from Lois saw herself in a position to create a chance inside the Millmoor penalty area in which she slipped into the bottom right corner making it 1-0 to United as the whistle for half time blew.
